The Perfect Guacamole

Just a few tips on how to create the perfect guacamole. It's such a great dish to serve at parties and get-togethers. Everyone has their own take on how it should be done, so I thought I would share my views.

Onions - Yay or Nay?

I say to always add onions, AND garlic. It gives such an amazing flavor to the creamy buttery taste of the guacamole that it's almost irresistible. The most important thing to remember is to chop the onions into small pieces so that you and your guest aren't eating large pieces of onion with every bite. The onion also adds great color to the dish. I use red onions, both for the taste, and for presentation. Basically it's a home run, and you just can't go wrong with that red beauty.

Spice Level

Spice is so important, but how spicy is too spicy. Although I like to enjoy a nice kick in my guac, I don't like to feel like my mouth is on fire. For most people, Jalapeños without the seeds add enough to jazz up a dish without overdoing it, but even Jalepeños can be too spicy if you have children or wusses like me trying to enjoy your avocado creation.Solution? - Tabasco sauce. Add as little or as much as you think will work for whoever you are serving, and it gives an extra taste that almost everyone loves.

Brown Guacamole - Not Awesome

If you are making your guacamole in advance and worry about it turning brown before your guests arrive there are two simple steps you should take to keep it nice a green.
  1. Make sure to use plenty of lime juice - This will help to add a fresh flavor to the dish and will also help to keep it nice an green.
  2. The Pit - Keep the pit of the avocado and place it in your finished guac dish. Refrigerate until you are ready to serve, and then remove the pit before serving. Works like a charm
